I’m a software developer by trade. It’s one of the reasons I was tapped to be a Lego League coach even before my daughter was of age.
I recently wanted to learn how to develop Android apps and was trying to decide what I could build to understand how it is done. I realized that an FLL scoring app would be a great, basic app. What resulted is now in the Android Market. Below are a few screen shots:
The app currently in the Market is for the 2010 game, Body Forward, but it’s built so that I can easily exchange the 2010 missions for the upcoming 2011 ones. It runs on Android 1.6 and above. I am releasing it now so that you can try it out and give me some comments to see what features you’d like added or changed. That will give me time to make changes before the 2011 Game is released.
Note that for the 2011 season, Food Factor, each of the mission screens will have a picture of the actual mission. The images in this app came from Techbrick.com.
Mine, of course, isn’t the only one out there. I found several others, each of which is mentioned at TechBrick. My goal was not to replace them, but as I mentioned above, a way for me to learn Android. Check out all the apps and decide which one is the best for you.
If you do find my app useful, I would appreciate a small donation via the Donate button in the far right column. The Android Market charges a fee to publish apps and I just want to offset that fee. Anything extra will go to FIRST or High Tech Kids.
I look forward to hearing what you think.
