Teams are beginning to get started for the 2011 season, so I wanted to point rookie coaches to my The First Meeting post from last year.
The post describes what you should do to get ready for your first meeting and what you should accomplish. To summarize, the first meeting should be an introductory meeting. All the team members should get introduced to each other and every one should be introduced to Lego League. If you’re a rookie coach and don’t know what Lego League is about yourself, read my What is Lego League? post, or visit the FLL web site.
No one can prepare you for the competition. It is loud, chaotic, and stressful, but you and your team will have a LOT of fun. You’ll be proud of what your team accomplished, and will be beaming with pride when the kids answer questions you didn’t ask them in practice.
Don’t be afraid of all that you’ll need to do before competition. It will all come together better than you expect. Just take it one step at a time, enjoy the time with your team, and most of all, have fun.
